I awoke to the news that the Director-General of the BBC launched an attack on Murdoch’s News Corporation as it prepares to buy another chunk of Sky. Ho hum, you may think, tell me another story about a woman putting a cat in a bin. I hope not. Coincidentally, this week’s story is a rant about the media, inspired by the appalling revelation this week that 1 in 5 Americans believe Obama is a Muslim. And in a week in which 1.2 million flood-stricken Pakistanis barely rated a mention in Murdoch’s Sun but the front page featured the cat-in-the-bin woman, an X-Factor contestant and the Take That reunion, we should all be concerned about Murdoch’s media operations.
